Where it came from
Ghost Story Club, authored by the creative known as Ojigjaemi, emerged within the contemporary South Korean webtoon landscape. This series was crafted to revitalize the classic trope of an anthology-style horror collection, focusing on eerie, supernatural occurrences experienced by a group of students. The work reflects the broader trend of episodic horror in digital comics, aiming to balance suspenseful storytelling with relatable academic settings to engage younger readers.
The artistic style of the series prioritizes atmosphere and psychological tension over gore, utilizing stark character designs and shadowy panels to build anticipation. By centering the narrative on the club itself as a framing device, the author created a cohesive structure for the various hauntings. It has been noted for its accessible pacing and its ability to modernize traditional folk-horror elements for a digital-first audience, cementing its place as a recognized entry in the niche of school-based supernatural webtoons.
