Gichi Gichi-kun

Gichi Gichi-kun is a prominent example of the ero-guro (erotic grotesque) movement in Japanese manga, written and illustrated by Suehiro Maruo and first published in 1984. The narrative centers on a disturbing, surreal journey following a mutated creature, reflecting Maruo’s fascination with the transgressive, the macabre, and the aesthetics of pre-war Japanese popular culture. It is situated within the underground gekiga scene, which sought to challenge mainstream sensibilities through themes of trauma, physical degradation, and distorted sexuality.
