Giornale araldico-genealogico-diplomatico italiano... Anno 1873-1874 (-1890-1891)...

The Giornale araldico-genealogico-diplomatico-italiano was founded in 1873 by Giovanni Battista di Crollalanza, a prominent Italian scholar and genealogist. The publication emerged during a period of intense nation-building in Italy, serving as a scholarly venue to document and preserve the histories of noble families across the newly unified Italian peninsula. It functioned as a primary reference for heraldic research and diplomatic studies, reflecting the era's preoccupation with aristocratic identity and historical legitimacy.

Crollalanza was a prolific writer, and his editorial vision focused on rigour and archival detail, positioning the journal as a definitive authority in Italian genealogy. The design and layout adhered to the conventions of nineteenth-century academic journals, prioritizing dense, informative text accompanied by heraldic illustrations and plates documenting family crests and coat-of-arms. While primarily circulated among historians, archivists, and noble houses, the series remains a cornerstone of Italian genealogical research and is widely held in major international libraries as a primary source for family history.
