Giornale araldico-genealogico-diplomatico italiano, diretto dal cav. G.B. di Crollalanza

The Giornale araldico-genealogico-diplomatico-italiano was established in 1873 by Goffredo di Crollalanza, a prominent Italian genealogist and heraldist. The publication served as the official organ of the Reale Accademia Araldica Italiana, an institution dedicated to the formal study of heraldry and the preservation of noble lineage records following the unification of Italy. Its creation reflected the late nineteenth-century scholarly effort to systematize and document the history of Italian aristocratic families during a period of significant social and political transition.

Crollalanza’s editorial vision was to create a rigorous reference point for historians and researchers, combining genealogical tables, heraldic descriptions, and diplomatic transcripts. The work is noted for its adherence to classical heraldic methodologies and its ambition to serve as a comprehensive registry. It was well-regarded by contemporaneous historical societies for its depth of research, though it remains a specialized archival resource today, prized primarily by scholars of Italian institutional history and ancestral documentation.
