Goethe's sämmtliche Gedichte: nach den vorzüglichsten Quellen revidirte Ausgabe. Lyrische Gedichte : Zweiter Theil

This volume belongs to the mid-19th-century efforts to standardize and disseminate the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Published as part of a series intended to provide a reliable, scholarly-reviewed edition of his complete poetry, this particular volume focuses on the second part of his lyrical works. It reflects the post-Enlightenment cultural push in German-speaking lands to solidify Goethe's status as a foundational pillar of national literature through accessible yet academically rigorous collections.

The design of these editions often followed the conventions of 19th-century German publishing, prioritizing clarity, durability, and a formal aesthetic suitable for a private library. By utilizing sources described as the most excellent or authoritative of the time, the publishers aimed to correct textual inconsistencies that had persisted in earlier, less systematic printings. The reception of these standardized sets was largely positive, as they provided students, scholars, and the literate public with a definitive version of the poet's vast body of work.
