Gorgeous★Irene

Gorgeous★Irene was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1986, serving as a significant early work for Hirohiko Araki before he achieved global fame with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The story centers on Irene, a skilled assassin who utilizes deception and transformation to carry out her missions. It acts as a stylistic bridge in Araki's portfolio, showcasing the transition from his earlier genre pieces toward the hyper-stylized fashion sensibilities and dramatic poses that would define his later career.

The character design reflects the mid-eighties obsession with aesthetic flair and action-driven narrative tension. Araki utilized the short format to experiment with visual storytelling, leaning into a glamorous yet gritty visual language. While it did not reach the long-term cultural ubiquity of his subsequent series, it is highly regarded by collectors and fans of his formative style for its distinct artistic evolution and the foundational character work that helped refine his signature approach to manga composition.
