Gravitation EX

Gravitation EX was created by Maki Murakami as a direct continuation of her seminal boys' love manga series, Gravitation. Following the conclusion of the original narrative, which followed the turbulent romance between aspiring musician Shuichi Shindou and novelist Eiri Yuki, this sequel series was designed to explore the characters' lives post-success and the maturation of their relationship. It emerged during a period where the genre was seeing increased mainstream visibility, aiming to provide fans with a more grounded look at the professional and personal pressures faced by the original protagonists.

The artistic style of Gravitation EX maintains the high-energy, expressive character designs that characterized Murakami's earlier work, though with a noticeable evolution toward cleaner lines and more nuanced emotional framing. The series was met with interest from long-time readers of the franchise, serving as a bridge between the frenetic energy of the early 2000s manga scene and a more modern, contemplative approach to character-driven storytelling. It remains a notable example of a creator revisiting and expanding upon their definitive work years after the initial series concluded.
