Set in the mid-19th century in the notorious Five Points district of New York City, the narrative explores the grim reality of Irish immigrants struggling for survival amidst extreme poverty and gang violence. The story centers on a young man named Luke Burns who attempts to maintain his integrity and pacifism while his older brother, a professional assassin, descends into the city's dark criminal underworld.

The series is noted for Kakizaki's hyper-realistic, high-contrast art style, which draws heavy influence from classic American Westerns and the cinematic grit of Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York.
