DieBuster, also known as GunBuster 2, was produced by Studio Gainax to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the original 1988 GunBuster series. Released as a six-part original video animation (OVA) series starting in 2004, it was directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, who sought to capture the high-energy, emotive spirit of Hideaki Anno’s original work while establishing a distinct aesthetic and narrative identity for a new generation of viewers.
