Happy Hustle High

Happy Hustle High was authored and illustrated by the Japanese mangaka Rie Takada, originally serialized in the shojo magazine Sho-Comi during the mid-2000s. The story follows the life of a high school student named Hanabusa, who takes on a job as a housekeeper to support her family, leading to a series of comedic and romantic entanglements. Takada, known for her energetic pacing and distinct character designs, crafted the series to balance the traditional tropes of the school-life genre with lighthearted, situational humor that resonated with a younger demographic of manga readers.

The English-language edition published by Viz Media arrived as part of the company's efforts to expand its shojo catalog during a period of significant growth for the manga market in North America. The series is often categorized by its earnest exploration of themes like financial responsibility and personal growth within the high school setting. It was received as a standard, accessible entry in the rom-com subgenre, praised by contemporary reviewers for its breezy narrative style and Takada’s approachable, polished artwork.
