It emerged during the height of the 1990s basketball boom in Japan, fueled in part by the immense popularity of other seminal basketball works like Slam Dunk. The story follows Toru Naruse, a high school student who transitions from being a casual observer to an enthusiastic streetball player, capturing the gritty, fast-paced culture of urban basketball.

Nishiyama’s design approach focused on dynamic, kinetic action sequences that emphasized the individual flair and street-style aesthetic of the 1990s.
