Harry Potter - Starless (Doujinshi)

Starless is a notable work within the Japanese Harry Potter fan community, produced as a doujinshi—a self-published fan work—by the circle CherryBeans. Emerging during the height of the Harry Potter craze in the early 2000s, these publications flourished as creators explored romantic subtext and character relationships that were not explicitly addressed in the original novels. Like many works in this medium, it reflects the intense creative engagement of adult fandom participants who utilized the established Wizarding World as a canvas for original artistic interpretation.

The design and narrative approach of CherryBeans were characterized by a focus on stylistic illustration and localized fan tropes common to the doujinshi scene of that era. These works were typically distributed at specialized events like Comiket, serving as ephemeral snapshots of a specific subculture's fascination with the series. Because these publications were produced independently and in limited quantities for a niche audience, they remain elusive artifacts that document the intersection of global literary phenomena and independent Japanese amateur publishing.
