Henkei! Henkei! Transformers

The Henkei! Henkei! Transformers series was launched by Takara Tomy in 2008 as a localized line for the Japanese market, building upon the foundations of the Hasbro Classics and Universe 2.0 lines. The series was designed to provide Japanese fans with premium iterations of iconic Generation 1 characters, often utilizing high-quality paint applications, chrome finishes, and mold tweaks to more closely align with their original animated appearances. This collection represents a significant bridge between Western toy engineering and Japanese consumer expectations for collectors.

The accompanying manga, illustrated by Naoto Tsushima, served to ground the toy line in a serialized narrative format consistent with the long-standing tradition of Japanese Transformers storytelling. Tsushima, a prolific artist within the franchise, utilized a dynamic, clean aesthetic that highlighted the core mechanical features of the figures. The work was generally well-received by the enthusiast community for its ability to weave complex toy-line updates into a coherent, action-oriented saga that respected the source material of the 1980s while showcasing the modern engineering of the figures.
