Where it came from
Her Bucket List, authored by Hwang Yang, emerged from the vibrant South Korean webtoon landscape, a medium that has increasingly become a source for cross-media adaptations. The narrative centers on a protagonist who creates a list of tasks to complete before taking their own life, only to find an unexpected companion who joins them in the journey. This premise reflects a common theme in contemporary manhwa, blending heavy emotional subject matter with character-driven growth and romantic elements.
The visual storytelling in this work relies on the distinct aesthetic of modern webtoons, prioritizing expressive character designs and accessible layouts optimized for digital scrolling. Upon its release, the work was noted for its sensitive handling of themes regarding mental health and bereavement, eventually gaining enough recognition to be adapted into a web drama. It represents a significant title in the genre of healing or restorative narratives that became popular among younger audiences in the late 2010s.
