History of the Roush Family in America: From Its Founding by John Adam Rausch in 1736 to the Present Time

Published in 1928, this genealogical volume was compiled by Lester Le Roy Roush to document the lineage of the Roush family, tracing their origins from the arrival of John Adam Rausch in the American colonies in 1736. The work emerged from a broader early-twentieth-century trend of documenting ancestral roots, aiming to preserve the narrative of pioneer families who settled in frontier regions. It served as a comprehensive resource for descendants to understand their heritage and connections across various branches of the family tree.

The book is a classic example of amateur genealogical research of its era, characterized by detailed record-keeping and a focus on maintaining familial identity. While it lacks the formal peer-review standards of modern academic historical texts, it remains a primary reference for historians and researchers studying German-American migration patterns in the eighteenth century. It was received primarily within the family and genealogical societies as a diligent, foundational effort to chronicle the evolution of a multi-generational clan.
