Where it came from
Hooky originated as a wildly popular webcomic serialized on the WEBTOON platform beginning in 2015. Created by Spanish artist Míriam Bonastre Tur, the story follows twins Dani and Dorian Wytte, who accidentally miss the bus to magic school and must navigate the consequences, including a looming war between witches and non-magical humans. The narrative gained a massive international following due to its whimsical art style and deep character development.
The book version was commissioned to adapt the digital serialization into a traditional print format, allowing fans to own physical copies of the complete story arcs. Bonastre Tur utilized a vibrant, expressive aesthetic that emphasizes fluid character movement and magical atmosphere, a style heavily influenced by shonen manga and European graphic storytelling. Upon its print release, the collection was well-received for successfully translating the scrolling webcomic format into a structured, bound reading experience that maintained the charm of the original digital episodes.
