Where it came from
Hooligan is a graphic novel series authored and illustrated by Jayson Santos, emerging from the independent comics scene. It was crafted to explore themes of urban grit and social tension, utilizing a distinct, high-contrast visual style that emphasizes the chaotic energy of its namesake. Santos designed the work to challenge traditional narrative structures within the medium, opting for an atmospheric, character-driven approach that prioritizes visceral storytelling over conventional exposition.
Upon its release, the series garnered attention for its raw aesthetic and uncompromising tone. It became a notable entry for readers interested in creator-owned projects that push against mainstream tropes. The design philosophy behind the volume reflects a dedication to self-expression, with Santos overseeing every aspect of the visual presentation to ensure the art remained tethered to the thematic intensity of the script.
