Hori-san to Miyamura-kun

Hori-san to Miyamura-kun began as a web manga self-published by the artist HERO on their website, Dokkai Ahen, starting in 2007. The series originated as a slice-of-life comedy focusing on the contrast between the public and private personas of two high school students, Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura. Its grounded, character-driven narrative resonated deeply with readers, leading to its eventual transition into a serialized format and the publication of ten print volumes between 2008 and 2011.

The aesthetic of the original web manga was notably minimalist and raw, reflecting its independent digital roots. When the series was later adapted into the mainstream 'Horimiya' manga by Daisuke Hagiwara, the visual style was significantly polished to suit a shonen magazine audience. Despite the change in artistic collaborators, the core narrative remains rooted in HERO’s original vision of evolving relationships and the vulnerability required to show one’s true self to another person.
