Hotaru no Hikari SP

Hotaru no Hikari SP serves as a supplementary volume to Hiura Satoru’s popular josei manga series, which chronicles the life of Amemiya Hotaru, a young woman who rejects traditional expectations of femininity in favor of a relaxed, 'himono onna' or 'dried-fish woman' lifestyle. Published in the wake of the main series' success, this special edition was released to provide readers with additional vignettes and character depth that expand upon the central narrative of Hotaru navigating her professional career and her unconventional romance with her boss, Seiichi Takano.

The aesthetic of the series is defined by Hiura Satoru’s expressive, lighthearted art style, which emphasizes comedic timing and the charming domestic disarray of the protagonist’s apartment. The collection was designed to capture the endearing, relatable nature of Hotaru’s dual life, balancing her highly efficient persona at work with her slothful habits at home. It was well-received by fans of the genre for maintaining the warm, humorous tone that made the original serialized work a staple in Kodansha’s Kiss magazine.
