Ichigenme wa Yaruki no Minpou

Ichigenme wa Yaruki no Minpou, or First Period: Motivated Civil Law, is an educational manga series written and illustrated by Fumi Yoshinaga. First serialized in the early 2000s, the work was conceived as an accessible entry point into the complexities of the Japanese Civil Code. Yoshinaga utilized her characteristic narrative flair to humanize dense legal statutes, framing them within a high school classroom setting to make the abstract principles of property and contract law relatable to younger readers.

The series is celebrated for Yoshinaga's distinct, clean artistic style and her ability to synthesize rigorous academic content into an engaging fictional format. It emerged during a period of rising interest in educational manga, known as gakushu manga, which sought to demystify professional disciplines for the general public. Critics and educators often praise the work for its pedagogical utility, noting that it balances the gravity of legal study with the lighthearted, character-driven dynamics common in Yoshinaga's broader body of work.
