I’m Kinda Chubby and I’m Your Hero

I’m Kinda Chubby and I’m Your Hero is a manga series created by the artist known as Nore. The work emerged from the niche landscape of contemporary Japanese web-manga and indie self-publishing, eventually gaining recognition for its subversion of traditional character archetypes within the romantic comedy genre. By centering on a protagonist whose self-perception and body image are central to the narrative, Nore addresses themes of insecurity and personal growth with a candid, grounded perspective.

The design and illustrative style are defined by a soft, expressive aesthetic that prioritizes emotional intimacy over high-octane action. Nore’s artistic choices lean into the protagonist's relatable nature, utilizing character designs that feel approachable rather than stylized or hyper-idealized. Upon its release, the series was well-received by readers for its quiet sincerity and for providing a refreshing departure from standard tropes, carving out a dedicated audience that values the nuanced portrayal of the title character's journey.
