Incredible Hulk Epic Collection: Kill Or Be Killed

The Incredible Hulk Epic Collection: Kill Or Be Killed is part of Marvel Comics' Epic Collection line, a series designed to reprint long-form runs of classic material in comprehensive, chronological trade paperback formats. This specific volume collects material originally published in the early 1980s, primarily centering on the creative tenure of writer Roger Stern and artist Sal Buscema. These stories were developed during a transitional period for the character, focusing on Bruce Banner’s struggle for control and his integration into the wider Marvel Universe, emphasizing a balance between high-stakes science fiction adventure and the psychological toll of the Hulk’s transformation.

The design of the volume adheres to the standardized Epic Collection trade dress, which prioritizes readability and archival preservation of the original comic book art. Roger Stern’s approach to the character was noted for its grounded, character-driven storytelling, which moved away from pure monster-of-the-week tropes toward a more nuanced portrayal of Banner’s internal conflict. The collection is well-regarded by fans and critics for highlighting the consistent and kinetic visual style of Sal Buscema, whose lengthy run on the title helped define the visual language of the Hulk for a generation of readers.
