The story centers on a near-future world where a high-tech powered exoskeleton system known as the Infinite Stratos becomes the global standard for military might, with the narrative focusing on the sole male pilot, Ichika Orimura, and his experiences at an elite training academy.

The series gained significant cultural traction through its character-driven aesthetic and high-concept mechanical designs, which helped solidify its place within the mecha-harem subgenre. While the production of the light novels faced shifts in publishers from Media Factory to Overlap, the design language—defined by its distinct blend of sleek, armored combat gear and school-life tropes—was widely recognized, eventually leading to multiple successful anime adaptations that further cemented the franchise's visibility.
