Jenaische allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung vom Jahre ...: 1813, 1/6

The Jenaische allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung was established in 1785 in Jena, serving as a pivotal organ of the German Enlightenment. By 1813, the publication had long moved its base of operations to Halle following political tensions, though it retained its original title. The 1813 volume reflects a period of intense historical volatility in Central Europe, documenting the intellectual climate during the final stages of the Napoleonic Wars when German cultural discourse was deeply preoccupied with national identity and political transition.

The journal was renowned for its rigorous, often critical approach to literary and scholarly reviews, attracting contributions from the most significant thinkers of the age, including Goethe and Fichte. Its design and editorial standards were rooted in the tradition of serious academic criticism, aiming to provide a comprehensive survey of contemporary thought. While the publication was highly influential among the educated elite of the early 19th century, its reception was frequently marked by the friction between its progressive, liberal-minded roots and the conservative pressures exerted by regional censors of the time.
