Where it came from
The Jushin Liger manga was created by Go Nagai in 1989, debuting alongside the anime adaptation of the same name. Commissioned as a cross-media project, the series draws on Nagai's signature style of blending high-stakes mecha action with mystical and occult themes, setting it apart from more traditional science-fiction robot narratives of the era.
The design of the titular mecha, Jushin Liger, is notable for its organic, animalistic aesthetic, which departs from the rigid, industrial forms common in the late 1980s. Nagai aimed to evoke a sense of ancient power and bio-mechanical fusion, a design philosophy that has garnered a cult following among fans of classic manga and has remained a significant entry in the mecha genre's history.
