Where it came from
Getter and I was authored by Go Nagai, a foundational figure in the mecha manga genre who is best known for creating dynamic and often intense narratives. This volume emerges from a period where Nagai was exploring deeply personal and sometimes surreal storytelling techniques, distinct from the grander, more bombastic scale of his more famous series like Getter Robo. The work serves as a reflection of Nagai's characteristic narrative energy, blending his signature artistic flair with a more intimate focus on character dynamics.
The design and illustrative style of this volume reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of 1970s manga production, characterized by bold linework and high-contrast visuals that emphasize movement and emotional intensity. Upon its release, it was received as a noteworthy departure for Nagai, appreciated by fans for its willingness to experiment with the conventions of the medium. It remains a staple for collectors interested in the breadth of Nagai’s creative output beyond his primary commercial franchises.
