Juuryokugumo

Juuryokugumo is a singular work of experimental manga created by Oohashi Morihei, emerging from the atmospheric and often surreal landscape of late 20th-century independent Japanese comics. It was conceived as an exploration of physical and psychological weight, utilizing stark, dense linework to articulate a world where gravity serves as both a literal environment and a metaphorical burden for the characters navigating its disjointed narrative path.

Oohashi Morihei’s design choices for the volume reflect a deliberate move away from traditional panel structure, favoring instead a claustrophobic, immersive visual density that demands slow, deliberate engagement from the reader. Upon its release, the work was noted by contemporary critics and niche enthusiasts for its uncompromising aesthetic, often cited as a distinct example of the avant-garde spirit that characterized the more eccentric corners of the manga industry during that era.
