Kaida-san no Kaidan

Kaida-san no Kaidan is a horror-manga series written and illustrated by Kigitsu Katsuhisa, known for his unique blend of unsettling atmosphere and dark humor. Serialized in the early 2000s, the work emerged during a period of heightened interest in anthology-style supernatural horror within Japanese manga culture, aiming to modernize traditional Japanese ghost stories through a lens of psychological suspense and visceral, often surreal, body horror.

The design of the series centers on the titular character, a spectral figure who acts as a catalyst for the grotesque tales presented in each volume. Kigitsu’s artistic style is characterized by dense linework and detailed, often macabre character expressions, which he utilizes to emphasize the vulnerability of his protagonists against the supernatural. The series was well-received by fans of the genre for its ability to maintain a consistent tone of dread while delivering tightly paced, disturbing narratives.
