Where it came from
Kekyar Company History is a distinct work by the manga artist Sakabashira Imiri, whose surreal and often disquieting aesthetic has made him a cult figure in the alternative manga scene. Released as a singular volume, the work reflects his signature style, characterized by dense, intricate linework and a dreamlike, almost architectural approach to storytelling that blurs the boundaries between industry and biology.
The narrative is rooted in Imiri’s fascination with bizarre machinery and the absurd cycles of corporate existence. By centering on the 'Kekyar Company,' he crafts a satirical yet haunting exploration of labor and production. The work was received by enthusiasts of gekiga and avant-garde comics as a sophisticated example of world-building, valued more for its atmospheric visual language than for traditional plot progression.
