Where it came from
Zogyo is a collection of manga short stories by the artist Sakabashira Imiri, originally published in Japan. Imiri is known for a distinct, surrealist aesthetic that blends grotesque imagery with intricate, mechanical, and architectural detail. The volume serves as a representative sample of his style, which often explores themes of urban decay, alien biospheres, and the bizarre nature of human existence within distorted, dreamlike landscapes.
The design and narrative structure of the collection reflect the underground manga scene of the early 2000s, drawing influence from creators who prioritize atmosphere and visual density over traditional linear storytelling. Imiri’s work is characterized by heavy cross-hatching and a meticulous approach to panel composition, which has earned him a reputation among connoisseurs of avant-garde and alternative manga for his uncompromising artistic vision.
