Where it came from
Kidou Senshi Moon Gundam is a manga series serialized in Gundam Ace starting in 2017, serving as a narrative bridge between the Universal Century installments Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. The story centers on Jutta Ashita, a young protagonist who discovers a mysterious mobile suit, the Varguil, which holds clues to the origins of the Neo Zeon faction. It is positioned within the expansive Universal Century timeline to flesh out the geopolitical instability occurring in the aftermath of the Gryps Conflict.
The series features mechanical design by Ippei Gyobu, who crafted the distinctive 'Moon Gundam' aesthetic by incorporating Psycho Plates—a unique modular weapon system that allows for both defensive and offensive versatility. Written by Harutoshi Fukui, who is well-known for his contributions to Gundam Unicorn, the manga was received by enthusiasts as a detailed expansion of lore that balances character-driven drama with the technical military sci-fi elements characteristic of the franchise's most grounded works.
