Kikkai-kun

Kikkai-kun was created by the prolific manga artist Go Nagai and serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion beginning in 1970. The series emerged during a period of creative transition for Nagai, arriving shortly after his work on the controversial Abashiri Family and shortly before he revolutionized the mecha genre with Mazinger Z. The narrative follows the titular protagonist, a boy with supernatural abilities, reflecting Nagai's signature blend of surrealism, dark humor, and transgressive storytelling that defined his early career.

The character design for Kikkai-kun carries the distinct, rough-hewn aesthetic associated with Nagai's early-1970s output. Designed to push the boundaries of shonen manga of the era, the series utilized exaggerated caricatures and subversive plot lines to challenge conventional heroic archetypes.
