Where it came from
Gregor Wolny, a Cistercian monk and historian, compiled this multi-volume work during the mid-19th century to provide a comprehensive ecclesiastical record of Moravia. The series was designed to document the history, administration, and architectural state of churches and monasteries in the region, relying extensively on primary archival sources and ancient manuscripts to ensure scholarly accuracy.
The publication was a significant undertaking within the context of 19th-century Austrian historiography, reflecting a broader movement to catalog regional heritage before it succumbed to the modernization of the industrial era. It remains a foundational reference for historians of Moravian church history, praised for its meticulous citation of administrative records and its structured approach to mapping the clerical landscape of the time.
