Kirchliche Topographie von Maehren: Olmuetzer Erzdioecese. 5 b

The Kirchliche Topographie von Maehren represents a monumental mid-19th-century effort to catalog the ecclesiastical history, geography, and administrative structures of Moravia. Compiled by the priest and historian Gregor Wolny, this series serves as a critical primary source for researchers interested in the religious infrastructure of the former Archdiocese of Olomouc. It was born out of a 19th-century scholarly fascination with regional history and the systematic documentation of church lands, parishes, and architectural landmarks during a period of shifting political and ecclesiastical influence in the Austrian Empire.

Gregor Wolny is widely recognized for his meticulous approach to local history, often spending decades gathering archival records to ensure the geographical and clerical accuracy of his work. The design of these volumes follows the academic standards of contemporary German-language historical surveys, emphasizing detailed descriptions and structured categorization over stylistic embellishment. Upon its release, the work became a foundational text for historians of the Moravian region, valued for its rigorous preservation of records that might have otherwise been lost to time or bureaucratic reorganization.
