Lady & Oldman

Lady & Oldman was serialized by Natsume Ono in Ultra Jump magazine beginning in 2015. The series emerged from Ono’s established interest in character-driven narratives, blending elements of fantasy and period drama with her signature minimalist, expressive art style. The story follows a young woman with a mysterious past and a man who appears to be immortal, traversing 1960s America in a narrative that emphasizes atmosphere and personal connection over conventional action.

The design of the series reflects Ono’s deliberate aesthetic choices, characterized by clean lines and an emphasis on the psychological interiority of its leads. Critics generally lauded the work for its cinematic framing and the subtle rapport between the title characters, noting it as a departure from the more frantic pacing common in contemporary seinen manga. It stands as a refined example of Ono’s ability to use historical settings as a backdrop for complex character studies.
