Where it came from
Lupin Junior was created by the legendary manga artist Monkey Punch in the late 1970s, serving as a spin-off exploration of the lineage associated with his iconic character, Arsène Lupin III. Following the massive success of the original series, this work sought to reimagine the world of high-stakes thievery by shifting the spotlight to the next generation, blending the signature slapstick humor and charismatic delinquency that defined Monkey Punch’s earlier style.
The character design maintains the lean, expressive lines characteristic of the author's mid-career output, focusing on a younger protagonist who balances the weight of his famous heritage with his own unique aspirations. While it remains a niche entry in the expansive Lupin III franchise, it provides a fascinating look at the creative evolution of the series' creator as he experimented with expanding the lore beyond the established exploits of the original Lupin crew.
