Lyric Poems, 1820-1826

This collection gathers a vital selection of lyric poetry produced by Aleksandr Sergeevich Pushkin during his most prolific years of exile and political maturation between 1820 and 1826. Emerging from a period of forced relocation to southern Russia, these works capture the transition of Pushkin’s voice from the romanticism of his youth toward the incisive, realist maturity that would eventually cement his status as the foundational figure of modern Russian literature.

This specific edition functions as a scholarly window into Pushkin’s thematic preoccupations, including his reflections on nature, political liberty, and the isolating weight of genius. The design and editorial framing aim to preserve the rhythmic integrity of the original Russian verse for an English-speaking audience, reflecting the enduring efforts of translators to bridge the linguistic gap left by the nuanced, crystalline structure of Pushkin’s early nineteenth-century prosody.
