Magdalena: evangelisch jaarboekje, uitgegeven ten behoeve van het Asyl Steenbeek

The Magdalena: evangelisch jaarboekje served as a charitable publication produced in the late 19th century to support the Asyl Steenbeek, an institution in the Netherlands dedicated to the care and reform of women. These yearbooks functioned both as devotional literature and as a fundraising vehicle, offering a combination of moral guidance, religious reflections, and organizational updates to cultivate sympathy and financial support from a pious readership.

The design of the yearbook reflects the typical aesthetic of Dutch religious printing during this era, prioritizing a sober, dignified presentation that aligned with the evangelical values of the institution. By providing readers with spiritual content in exchange for their support, the Asyl Steenbeek successfully integrated their charitable mission into the daily reading habits of the Dutch public, ensuring the institution remained visible and supported by the local community.
