Majin Bone originated as a cross-media project developed by Bandai Namco, designed to integrate a manga series with a collectible card game and an anime adaptation. The manga, written by the collective pseudonym Todo Izumi and illustrated by Naoto Tsushima, was serialized in Shueisha's Saikyō Jump starting in 2013. The narrative centers on a high school student named Shōgo Ryūjin, who discovers his ability to don mechanical suits known as Bone fighters to battle interdimensional threats, reflecting the era's focus on combining traditional shonen tropes with transformation-heavy character designs.

The character designs were crafted to appeal to a younger demographic, emphasizing sleek, armor-like aesthetics that translated well into both action figures and digital gameplay. While the project aimed to emulate the success of previous multimedia franchises by utilizing aggressive merchandising, it occupied a niche space within the competitive landscape of hobby-focused manga.
