Released in 1996 for the PlayStation, Megami Ibunroku Persona serves as the inaugural entry in the long-running Persona series, acting as a spin-off from the broader Shin Megami Tensei franchise. Developed by Atlus and directed by Katsura Hashino, the game departed from the post-apocalyptic settings of its parent series to explore the psychological lives of high school students, incorporating Jungian archetypes and the concept of 'Personas'—manifestations of the human psyche used for combat.

The character designs were handled by Kazuma Kaneko, whose distinctive, sleek aesthetic became a defining visual hallmark for the series.
