Sekaiju no Meikyuu II: Rikka no Shoujo

Sekaiju no Meikyuu II: Rikka no Shoujo is a manga adaptation based on the popular dungeon-crawling role-playing game series Etrian Odyssey, known in Japan as Sekaiju no Meikyuu. Published in the wake of the game's 2008 release for the Nintendo DS, this volume sought to translate the game's distinct atmosphere—defined by its challenging exploration and intricate mapping mechanics—into a narrative format. It captures the spirit of the 'labyrinth' genre, focusing on the guild system and the precarious nature of venturing into dangerous, uncharted territory.

The adaptation reflects the aesthetic established by series illustrator Yuji Himukai, whose character designs are central to the identity of the franchise. While the original game provides a mostly silent protagonist experience to encourage player immersion, this volume fleshes out the interpersonal dynamics and tactical challenges inherent to its adventurers. It was received primarily by the dedicated fanbase of the game, serving as a companion piece that emphasizes the world-building and high-fantasy setting of the Labyrinth of Yggdrasil.
