Mirrorman" "Fireman" "Jumborg 9" Tsuburaya Legend Hero Returns

The Mirrorman, Fireman, and Jumborg Ace/9 series represent the 'Tsuburaya Second Golden Age' of tokusatsu television, produced by Tsuburaya Productions in the early 1970s to capture the imaginative spirit established by the Ultra Series. These programs were designed to explore different sub-genres of giant hero fantasy, ranging from dimensional travel in Mirrorman to ecological disaster themes in Fireman and mechanical robotics in Jumborg Ace. They served as a creative bridge between the initial success of Ultraman and the more experimental science fiction content Tsuburaya would produce throughout the remainder of the decade.

This specific compilation, illustrated by Kataoka Tetsuji, captures the nostalgic essence of these characters as they were reimagined for later print publications. Kataoka, known for his work in the shonen manga tradition, sought to translate the dynamic, suit-based action of live-action television into static, high-energy panels. The work is regarded by collectors as a vital archival effort, preserving the visual legacy of Tsuburaya’s post-Ultra icons during a period when the original television footage was less accessible to the viewing public.
