Where it came from
Published in 2006, this volume serves as a supplemental guide to the Mobile Suit Z Gundam: A New Translation film trilogy. These films were produced to revisit and condense the classic 1985 television series, updating the animation while offering a reimagined narrative direction. This specific book was released to provide fans with a structured overview of the production’s thematic adjustments and the character arcs as they were presented in the first installment of the trilogy.
The volume features a blend of production art, stills from the newly animated sequences, and commentary regarding the transition from the original television broadcast to the theatrical format. It reflects the meticulous attention to detail typical of the franchise's editorial team, focusing on the refined character designs by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and the updated mechanical aesthetic. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a reference tool for enthusiasts seeking to understand the specific continuity changes implemented by creator Yoshiyuki Tomino.
