Mokuyoubi no Furutto

Mokuyoubi no Furutto is a long-running gag manga series by Masakazu Ishiguro, first serialized in the weekly magazine Morning beginning in 2012. The series centers on Furutto, a character who experiences a recurring series of surreal, philosophical, and often absurd situations tied to the specific day of the week. Ishiguro, also known for works like Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru and Heavenly Delusion, utilizes a distinctive minimalist style to contrast the mundane nature of the protagonist's life with the bizarre, often existential vignettes that unfold in each short chapter.

The design and tone of the collection reflect Ishiguro's interest in deconstructing the episodic gag manga format. By anchoring the narrative to the temporal marker of a Thursday, the series allows for a playful exploration of repetition and observational comedy. It was well-received by readers for its understated wit and the author's ability to maintain a fresh, unpredictable narrative voice despite the series' rigid, consistent structure over many years of publication.
