Moriarty the Patriot 19: Die spannenden Kriminalfälle von Sherlock Holmes' größtem Gegenspieler

Moriarty the Patriot, known in Japan as Yuukoku no Moriarty, is a manga series written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi. Debuting in 2016 within the pages of Jump Square, the narrative reimagines Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes canon by focusing on the origin story and motivations of Professor James Moriarty. The series positions Moriarty not merely as a villain, but as a complex protagonist striving to reform the rigid class structure of Victorian-era Britain through calculated, often lethal, interventions.

The nineteenth volume serves as part of the climactic progression of the series, published in German by Carlsen Manga to cater to the significant European fanbase for the franchise. The visual style, spearheaded by Miyoshi, is noted for its polished, gothic-inspired aesthetic that contrasts the dark socio-political themes of the Victorian setting with intricate character designs. Upon its release, the series received praise for its subversion of traditional tropes, drawing readers into a cat-and-mouse game that challenges the morality of both the detective and his arch-nemesis.
