Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 19

Moriarty the Patriot, written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, began serialization in Jump Square in 2016. The series offers a reimagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes canon, shifting the narrative perspective to William James Moriarty and his pursuit of social reform through criminal means. Volume 19 serves as part of the series' concluding arc, maintaining the dark, Victorian-inspired aesthetic that defined the franchise's visual identity from its inception.

The series gained significant international traction for its subversion of traditional tropes, with VIZ Media licensing the title for English publication. The character designs by Miyoshi are noted for blending historical elegance with modern shonen sensibilities, a stylistic choice intended to emphasize the intellectual rivalry between Moriarty and Holmes. Upon release, the series has been well-regarded for its intricate plotting and its thematic exploration of morality and class struggle in late 19th-century Britain.
