Where it came from
Museum was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine starting in 2013, emerging as a grim contribution to the seinen psychological thriller genre. Tomoe Ryousuke crafted the series to explore themes of obsession, morality, and the thin boundary between artistic expression and violent compulsion, centering on a detective’s pursuit of a killer who views his gruesome crimes as curated exhibits.
The art style is noted for its high-contrast, atmospheric realism, which emphasizes the unsettling nature of the killer’s elaborate crime scenes. Upon its release, the work garnered attention for its intense pacing and dark tone, eventually leading to a live-action film adaptation in 2016. Its design aesthetic remains influential in the genre for its stark depiction of urban decay and psychological unraveling.
