Where it came from
Naruto Gaiden: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring was released in 2015 as a canonical spin-off sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's long-running Naruto manga series. Created shortly after the conclusion of the main narrative, the volume serves as a bridge between the original story and the subsequent Boruto: Naruto Next Generations series. It shifts the focus to Sarada Uchiha, exploring her internal search for identity and her relationship with her parents, Sasuke and Sakura, within the newly peaceful landscape of the Hidden Leaf Village.
Kishimoto designed this volume to resolve lingering emotional arcs while establishing the thematic foundations for the next generation of ninja. By centering the narrative on Sarada, he provided a more intimate perspective on the legacy of the Uchiha clan after the events of the Great Ninja War. The work was received as a poignant epilogue that successfully transitioned the franchise into its new era, praised by fans for its focus on character development over the large-scale combat that defined the original run.
