New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Dual Story - G-Unit was serialized in Comic BonBon starting in 1997 as a side story to the popular New Mobile Report Gundam Wing anime. Developed during a time when Bandai sought to expand the Wing universe through multimedia spin-offs, the series was designed to showcase a new line of mobile suits with interchangeable parts, known as the G-UNIT system, which directly mirrored the modular gimmicks of the accompanying Gunpla model kits.

The manga was written and illustrated by Koichi Tokita, a veteran of the Gundam franchise who frequently adapted television series into print. While Yoshiyuki Tomino is credited with the original creation of the Gundam universe, Tokita was responsible for the narrative direction of G-Unit, focusing on the conflict at the MO-V colony. The series is remembered for its distinct mechanical designs that moved away from the sleek aesthetic of the original Wing Gundam units toward a more experimental, hardware-focused look that resonated with model kit builders of the late nineties.
