Where it came from
Mobile Suit Gundam NT, or Narrative, was released in 2018 as a theatrical film continuation of the Universal Century timeline, specifically serving as a direct sequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn novel and anime series. Produced by Sunrise, the project was designed to explore the lingering mysteries surrounding the 'Newtype' phenomenon and the fate of the psycho-frame technology following the events at Laplace's Box.
The narrative concept originated from writer Harutoshi Fukui, who penned the original Gundam Unicorn novels, while the creative direction maintained the franchise's long-standing aesthetic overseen by Yoshiyuki Tomino's foundational vision. The film was noted for its focus on the 'Narrative Gundam,' an experimental testbed mobile suit, and received a generally favorable reception from the franchise's core fanbase for its high-fidelity animation and its dedicated efforts to bridge the gap between the Unicorn and Hathaway's Flash story arcs.
